The distance between the light and the control during pairing should not exceed 1.5 metres. This process only needs to be done once; the control and light will then be permanently paired. To control the light, you need to activate the control by holding the top button for half a second. You can then change modes by pressing the top button briefly. After 10 minutes of inactivity, the control will turn off automatically.
