Thermal Socks
Keeping your feet warm, dry, free of unnecessary pressure points and blisters is not only a matter of suitable footwear, but also quality socks. Besides the aforementioned pitfalls such as blisters from socks that do not stay in place or pressure points from inadequate sock padding, truly comfortable and functional socks must handle mechanical wear, excess moisture inside shoes, boots, rubber boots or trainers, excessive heat or conversely cold, and last but not least odour or even fungal infections.
In practice this means that socks must not develop holes after only a few outdoor activities; they must provide perfect thermal regulation of the foot as well as adequate sweat and moisture wicking. If they can also eliminate odour or fungal infections, or cushion impacts while walking or running, all the better. For everyday wear as well as various outdoor activities, classic knee-high socks and socks (cotton and bamboo) serve us excellently, but thermal socks come closest to the ideal mentioned above — keeping your feet in perfect condition on every road and off-road trail.
Choose Thermal Socks According to Intended Use, Material and Season
Thermal socks can differ in their intended use and the manufacturing technology or materials used. Available are thermal socks from brands Bobr, Fox Outdoor, MFH, Mil-Tec and Pentagon combining various fibre types such as wool, cotton, elastane, CoolMax, nylon, polyamide etc., which can be used for everyday wear and for various extreme outdoor activities. Of course, regardless of the season, because the range includes summer, winter and year-round thermal socks, which are an excellent compromise between both alternatives mentioned.
