Specification
The third generation of the very popular rechargeable headlamp Fenix HM51R Ruby V3.0 offers a luminous flux of up to 860 lumens (ANSI) of neutral white light (4500 K) with a range of up to 140 meters and is also equipped with red LEDs. It is powered by one rechargeable RCR123A type battery (included), which is charged directly in the lamp via a modern USB-C connector; alternatively, a single disposable CR123A lithium battery can be used for power (with a limited max output of 150 lumens). The control button also has an indicator LED so you will always know when to recharge the battery. The tail cap of the lamp is magnetic, so it can be easily attached to anything iron. The HM51R has nine different lighting modes, allowing you to choose between high output and long runtime (up to 125 hours). The lamp is powered by digitally controlled constant current to ensure steady light output even as battery voltage drops (during gradual discharge).
The all-metal construction ensures high durability, optimal cooling and is fully waterproof according to the IP68 standard down to a depth of 2 meters under water. The practicality of the headlamp is increased by the ability to remove the light from the headband and use it as a small pocket flashlight. Additionally, the headlamp is equipped with a removable steel clip, so you can easily attach it to a pocket or strap. The Fenix HM51R V3.0 headlamp is an ideal companion for various sports activities, outdoor trips as well as for home and work.
The Fenix HM51R headlamp is a limited edition based on the Fenix HM50R and offers a number of improvements. For example, higher output of both white and red light, larger battery capacity, warmer color temperature, magnetic tail cap, constant regulation in most modes, more red light modes and more.
All lamp parameters (luminous flux, runtime on batteries, waterproofing, range and impact resistance) are measured in accordance with the ANSI/NEMA FL 1-2009 standard.
Specifications of the Fenix HM51R Ruby V3.0 headlamp

- Five white light modes: 860 lumens (1.25 hours) -> 450 lumens (2 hours) -> 160 lumens (3.1 hours) -> 50 lumens (10 hours) -> 3 lumens (125 hours)
- Four red light modes: 10 lumens (45 hours) -> 1 lumen (75 hours) -> red flashing 10 lumens (76 hours) -> SOS 5 lumens (116 hours)
- Measured with the included Fenix RCR123A Li-ion battery with a capacity of 950 mAh (included).
- In an emergency, a single disposable 3V CR123A lithium battery can be used for power, but the highest available mode will be 150 lumens.
- Digital constant output regulation with overheat protection.
- Charging via USB-C connector on the side of the headlamp; charging time for a fully depleted battery is approx. 2 hours.
- Smooth beam with a range of up to 140 meters (4,890 cd)
- 66 mm length x 36 mm width x 32 mm height (including the headlamp holder).
- 84 grams (including strap and battery).
- Battery capacity indication and low voltage warning.
- The lamp has memory and will always turn on in the last set mode (applies to both white and red light).
- Magnetic tail cap, the headlamp can be attached to anything iron.
- Protection against reverse battery insertion (reverse polarity).
- The cleverly designed holder also functions as a clip when the headlamp is removed from the strap.
- Comfortable perforated strap with reflective elements.
- Simple one-switch operation.
- Body made of high-strength aerospace aluminum alloy A6061-T6.
- Durable heavily scratch-resistant finish - Type III hard anodized.
- Dustproof and waterproof according to IP68 standard (tested underwater at a depth of 2 meters for 4 hours).
- Impact resistant to drops from 2 meters.
- High-quality TIR optics with high light transmittance.
- The package includes the HM51R V3.0 headlamp, ARB-L16-950P battery, spare O-ring, USB-C charging cable, steel clip.
- An Fenix APB-20 pouch and a set of black straps AFH-02 without reflective elements can be purchased separately - suitable for example for hunting, military or police use.
- The headlamp can be mounted to handlebars with Lockblock and Bikeblock mounts after removing it from the holder.
- Additionally, a replacement strap, USB mains adapter and car USB adapter or a replacement RCR123A battery with USB-C connector can be purchased separately.
Usage
There may be a black insulating cover on the battery inside the lamp from the factory. Before first use, remove it from the battery.
- A switched-off headlamp can be turned on into the last used white light mode by holding the button for 0.5 seconds.
- A switched-off headlamp can be turned on into the last used red light mode by double-pressing the button quickly.
- A switched-on headlamp can be turned off by holding the button for 0.5 seconds.
If the headlamp is on, short presses of the button can cyclically switch output modes in the order 3 - 50 - 160 - 450 - 860 lumens (when turned on to white light) or red 1 lumen - red 10 lumens - red flashing - red SOS (when turned on to red light). The lamp has memory and will always turn on in the last set mode (applies to both white and red light).
Overheat protection: During long-term use of the headlamp on high output modes a large amount of heat accumulates. When the headlamp reaches a temperature of 60 °C or higher, it will automatically reduce output by several lumens to lower the temperature. When the temperature drops below 60 °C, the output will gradually increase again.
Battery charge indicator: After a short press of the button (the headlamp must be off) the indicator LED in the button is activated. If the indicator diode lights green the battery is charged to more than 85%. Green blinking means 50-85% capacity. If it lights red, it is charged to 20-50%. Red blinking indicates less than 20% battery capacity remaining. The indication works correctly only with rechargeable RCR123A / 16340 batteries.
Charging: Open the rubber cover of the charging connector and plug the supplied cable into the lamp (USB-C connector), connect the other end of the cable to a computer, power bank or USB mains/car adapter (not included). During charging the side button lights red and after full charge it lights green. After charging the lamp, reseal the charging connector with the rubber cover. Charging a fully depleted battery takes approx. 2 hours. In an emergency the lamp can also be used during charging, but only white modes 3 and 50 lumens and the red modes will be available.
Low battery warning: If the battery voltage drops below the set level, the headlamp will automatically switch to lower output modes. If the headlamp is already switched to the lowest output mode and the battery is critically low, the indicator in the button will start blinking red. However, the headlamp will continue to light until the battery is completely drained. Note: the low battery warning is calibrated only for the voltage of rechargeable Li-ion batteries.
Locking the headlamp against accidental activation: Loosen the battery cap of the headlamp by a quarter turn to interrupt the electrical contact and the headlamp cannot be turned on. The button can also be locked electronically – with the headlamp off, hold the button pressed for 3 seconds. After locking the lamp will blink red. To unlock, hold the button for 3 seconds again.
Warning
- Keep this headlamp out of reach of children.
- Do not shine the headlamp directly into anyone's eyes.
- Do not disassemble the sealed part in the head of the lamp yourself, this will void the warranty.
- Lock the headlamp or remove the battery to prevent accidental activation when the headlamp is stored in enclosed and flammable environments such as pockets and backpacks!
- Do not shine on flammable objects from immediate proximity to avoid damaging them or creating a hazard due to high temperature.
- If using a disposable CR123A battery do not attempt to charge it in the lamp.
- If the protective rubber rings appear damaged after prolonged use, replace them. The rings should also be lubricated to prevent rubber erosion. By following these rules the lamp will be properly protected against water.
- If the lamp is flashing, not switching to higher output modes, or not lighting, it may be due to one of the following reasons:
- The battery is nearly depleted – charge or replace it.
- The contacts inside the lamp are dirty – clean them with cotton soaked in alcohol.
- The rear part of the lamp is loose – tighten it.
