My first Opinel VR N°07 Inox folding knife

Safe fun in nature includes carving boats or whistles, building shelters or actively helping in the garden or kitchen... All of this will be experienced by children older than 7 years who receive their first Opinel. The blade tip is perfectly rounded, so it is completely safe during a child's handling. These children's knives are also folding and, like those for adults, are equipped with the ViroBlock safety lock. The handle of these children's pocket knives is made from either hornbeam or beech wood, always finished with a matt lacquer. In the case of hornbeam wood, which is light and has no grain structure and therefore colours very well, the children's knives are available in many colour variations, also with animal motifs on the handle and blade. Wood from French beech is used for handles in the natural version. This children's folding knife in the version with a natural beech handle, finished only with matt lacquer, can also be obtained in a set with a belt sheath.

Selection of quality materials is the foundation

Wood

95% of the wood from which handles are made comes from sustainably managed French forests. There is no excessive felling of forests and air pollution from long transport – nature is less burdened by all of this. The main wood supplier has its forest areas in the French Jura region and is of course a holder of PEFC certification.

Stainless steel

Steel selection is very important because it is one of the determining materials of the knife itself. It determines durability and
the quality of the blade itself. For Opinel knives, high-quality Swedish steel 12C27 (Sandvik) was selected. This steel is highly resistant to corrosion and easy to maintain thanks to the addition of chromium. The addition of carbon in the steel (0.40%) ensures an excellent edge that holds its shape even when in contact with harder material without the need for sharpening.
