Every unnecessary element gets in the way, and every missing detail can complicate the situation. The Mutant 38 was created for those who understand these differences and want a backpack that was designed for the vertical world from the very beginning.
Design for technical ascents, not compromises
Thirty-eight litres of capacity can hold a rope, crampons, ice axe, helmet and all the other equipment required for a technical ascent. A minimalist design does not mean something is missing – it means there is nothing extra. Cross-lacing cords on the front panel are used to attach gear that needs to remain accessible while moving, without having to unpack the backpack. Ice axe and crampon attachments are integrated directly into the construction, not added later as accessories.
The removable top lid reduces weight during purely technical climbing ascents – leave it at base camp and climb with a lighter backpack. The backpack is designed to be compatible with a climbing harness – the hip belt does not restrict movement or access to gear on the harness.
Carry system for load and movement
The back panel with a firm framesheet transfers the load efficiently even with heavy gear. Padded shoulder straps with a compression system keep the contents stable while climbing – the backpack does not bounce or shift sideways. Durable materials designed for contact with rock and ice ensure that the backpack will withstand the conditions where you truly need it.
